My name is Lauren Rice.
A little about me
I am a Senior Visual Design Lead based in Savannah, Georgia, working on the Carbon Design System, IBM’s open-source design system for products and digital experiences.
I am a systems thinker and work with multi-disciplinary teams to create impactful experiences and to surpass user and business needs. I am passionate about design systems and tackling and solving complex problems within technical domains. I enjoy designing for consistency and alignment. I care about attention to detail, rigor, and designing with accessibility in mind.
No design topic or problem is ever too small or large. I could sit here and talk your ear off for hours about exploring different kinds of padding between an icon and text in a component or try to strategize something at a larger scale, like structuring an IA for an entire suite of products. I am here for it all!
Some other things about me
I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, and am a Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) graduate with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design.
I love to travel, which stems from my family’s background. Both my parents and grandparents lived overseas most of their lives, and I have the travel bug for life. I’ve been to 22 countries and counting, and my goal is to visit every continent.
I am an equestrian and ride horses in my spare time. I used to compete for several years when I was younger and am training to start showing again.
